Application and Use of Laboratory Muffle Furnace
The muffle furnace is a universal heating equipment, often used for thermal processing and industrial workpiece processing. In the pharmaceutical industry, the muffle furnace is used for drug inspection and the pretreatment of medical samples; in the analytical chemical industry, the muffle furnace is used as sample processing equipment in the fields of water quality analysis and environmental analysis; in the coal quality analysis, the muffle furnace It can also be used for moisture, ash, volatile determination, ash melting point analysis, ash composition analysis and elemental analysis. In addition, the muffle furnace can also be used as a general ashing furnace.

For the classification of muffle furnaces, they can be classified according to their heating elements, rated temperatures, and controllers. For details, see the following:

  1) According to the heating elements, there are: electric furnace wire muffle furnace, silicon carbide rod muffle furnace, silicon molybdenum rod muffle furnace;

  2) According to the rated temperature, it is generally divided into: muffle furnaces below 1000°C, 1000°C, 1200°C muffle furnaces, 1300°C, 1400°C muffle furnaces, 1600°C, 1700°C muffle furnaces. Muffle furnace at 1800°C.

  3) According to the controller, there are the following types: pointer table, ordinary digital display table, PID adjustment control table, program control table; according to the insulation material, there are two types: ordinary refractory brick and ceramic fiber.

 

Precautions for the use of muffle furnace:

1. When the muffle furnace is used for many times or used again after a long period of inactivity, it must be baked first. When in use, the furnace temperature should not exceed the rated temperature, so as not to burn out the heating element. It is forbidden to pour various liquids and easily soluble metals into the furnace.

2. The muffle furnace and controller must work in a place where the relative humidity does not exceed 85%, and there is no conductive dust, explosive gas or corrosive gas. When the grease-containing metal material needs to be heated, a large amount of volatile gas will affect and corrode the surface of the electric heating element, thereby destroying the electric heating element and shortening its service life. Therefore, it should be prevented in time when heating, and the container should be sealed or properly opened to eliminate.

3. Damage to the oxide layer will shorten the service life of the heating element, and the oxide layer will be damaged every time the machine is shut down, so avoid shutting down after the machine is turned on.

4. The muffle furnace controller should be limited to the ambient temperature of 0-40℃. Do not pull out the thermocouple suddenly at high temperature to avoid cracking of the jacket.

5. When the muffle furnace is heated, the outer sheath of the furnace will also become hot. Keep the furnace away from combustibles and keep the heat outside the furnace convenient. Pay attention to safety and avoid burns.

6. When using the muffle furnace, it must be maintained frequently to prevent accidents caused by failure of automatic control. When there is no one on duty at night, the resistance furnace shall not be used.

7. After the muffle furnace is used, the power supply should be cut off to allow it to cool naturally, and the furnace door should not be opened immediately.
